Owensboro, Ky. (April 15, 2014) – Kentucky Wesleyan senior Ginny Weant, a soprano voice major, will perform her Senior Recital on Saturday, April 19, at 4 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church. The recital will consist of works by Handel, Georges Bizet and John Duke, an aria from Strauss’ “Die Fledermaus” and a solo from “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.” Professor Joy Malone will accompany Weant.
Weant is from Salisbury, N. C., and transferred to Kentucky Wesleyan her sophomore year. Ginny has been an active member and frequent soloist in the Kentucky Wesleyan Singers and Chamber Singers and has represented the school on the radio for “The Festival of Lessons and Carols” and on the Kentucky Wesleyan advertisements in “Kentucky Monthly” magazine. She has competed biannually in the National Association for Teachers of Singing (NATS) competition and has placed in the top three each year in the classical women’s division both for state and regional competitions with first place in state in 2011 and 2013).
She attended an Italian Opera program in Novafeltria, Italy, in 2013, and had daily lessons and performed solos and opera scenes in various venues around the region.
An active participant in theater, Ginny has also been seen in various school productions, including the leading role in “Antigone” in 2011 and “Godspell” in 2012. She is currently playing the role of Sally in “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” at Riverpark Center on April 25 and 26. She is a soloist at First Presbyterian Church.
