Dr. Bradley Naylor serves as Assistant Professor of Music at Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro, Kentucky, where he directs the school’s choral music program. He has previously served on the music faculties of Brown University, and the University of Georgia Hugh Hodgson School of Music, and the Middlesex School in Concord, Massachusetts. Dr. Naylor holds a bachelor of arts degree in music from Brown University, and master's and doctoral degrees in choral conducting from Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music and the Yale University School of Music, respectively. At Yale he served as Assistant Principal Conductor of the Yale Camerata and Ensemble Manager and Assistant Conductor of the Yale Schola Cantorum. Outside of these academic positions he directed the Saybrook College Orchestra, served as cantor and assistant choirmaster at New Haven’s storied Christ Church Episcopal, and co-directed the academy division of the Elm City Girls’ Choir.
In addition to his work as a choral and vocal pedagogue, Bradley is an advocate for choral innovation. In 2011 he was a founding member and singer in the Raleigh-area professional jazz octet Avante Vocal Jazz. In 2012 he formed A Clarion Sound, an elite chamber choir in Durham, and directed its premiere concert, “Music for Holy Week,” to great acclaim. From 2012-2013 he was Artistic Director of the Houston Cecilia Chamber Choir. Dr. Naylor’s career as a singer parallels his work as a conductor. As a professional tenor, he has performed in choral ensembles for regional and national conferences of the American Choral Directors Association. He has been a soloist with the Choral Society of Durham and the Dallas Symphony Chorus, and is a member of the 24-voice professional Santa Fe Desert Chorale. Dr. Naylor is also an experienced studio voice teacher and vocal coach.
Bradley has studied conducting with Simon Carrington, Marguerite Brooks, Jeffrey Douma, Jan Harrington, Carmen Tellez, John Poole, and William Jon Gray. He has participated in conducting master classes with Marin Alsop, Helmuth Rilling, Stephen Layton, Paul Hillier, Craig Jessop, and Stefan Parkman. He has studied voice with Judith Malafronte and Kathryne Jennings.
